Debunking the Myth: Is EPIC: The Musical Made by AI?
If you have spent any time scrolling through TikTok, YouTube, or music streaming platforms lately, you have almost certainly bumped into EPIC: The Musical. Created by Jorge Rivera-Herrans, this viral, sung-through adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey has taken the internet by storm, racking up billions of streams and building a massive, passionate fanbase.
Because of its rapid, internet-fueled rise and high-concept production, a persistent rumor occasionally floats around online: Is EPIC: The Musical generated by artificial intelligence?
The short answer is no, absolutely not. Every single note, lyric, and vocal performance in the official project is 100% human-created. However, the confusion usually stems from a few different places regarding how the musical was made, its album art, and the wild west of fan-made AI content online.
1. The Music and Vocals Are 100% Human
EPIC is the product of years of grueling, passionate human labor. Jorge Rivera-Herrans began developing the project as his senior thesis at the University of Notre Dame back in 2019 and famously documented his writing process on TikTok.
