Unveiling Song Kang: The Journey, Birth Year, and Rise of South Korea’s “Son of Netflix”

When fans search for “Song Kang sinh năm” (Vietnamese for “What year was Song Kang born?”), they are looking to uncover the age and background of one of Hallyu’s most magnetic superstars. Born on April 23, 1994, this talented South Korean actor has taken the global entertainment industry by storm.

Often dubbed the “Son of Netflix” due to the massive international streaming success of his hit series, Song Kang’s journey from a hesitant newcomer to a powerhouse leading man is a story defined by dedication, versatility, and undeniable charm.

Early Life and Roots

Born in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, Song Kang grew up in an artistic household—his father was an artistic gymnast and his mother worked as a piano teacher. Standing at an impressive 184–186 cm, his striking visuals naturally initially led him toward modeling opportunities.

Though multiple entertainment agencies scouted him to become a K-pop idol trainee, Song Kang turned them down, choosing to pursue his true passion: acting. He went on to major in Film Arts at Konkuk University, laying the professional foundation for his future on stage and screen.

The Breakthrough: From Rookie to Global Icon

Song Kang made his official acting debut in 2017 with a supporting role in the tvN romantic-comedy series The Liar and His Lover. However, his meteoric rise began when he beat out massive competition to land his first major lead role as Hwang Sun-oh in the Netflix original series Love Alarm (2019).

From there, Song Kang deliberately avoided getting typecast by diving headfirst into drastically different genres:

• Horror & Survival: He showcased his gritty, intense acting chops as the troubled high schooler Cha Hyun-soo in the blockbuster apocalyptic creature series Sweet Home (2020–2024).
• Deep Emotional Drama: He trained rigorously in ballet for six months to star alongside veteran actor Park In-hwan in the heartwarming, critically acclaimed drama Navillera (2021).
• Romance & Complex Relationships: He captured global attention in the campus romance Nevertheless (2021) and the workplace meteorology romance Forecasting Love and Weather (2022).
• Fantasy Comedy-Romance: He cemented his status as a top-tier Hallyu star portraying a charming, powerless supernatural entity in My Demon (2023–2024), a role that earned him major accolades at the SBS Drama Awards.

Military Service and Recent Endeavors

Demonstrating his commitment to his civic duties, Song Kang enlisted for his mandatory South Korean military service on April 2, 2024. After proudly completing his active-duty service, he was discharged in October 2025, much to the relief and excitement of his global fandom, affectionately known as Songpyeon.
